In today’s competitive world, having a strong personal brand is more important than ever. One of key aspects of building a powerful personal brand is establishing your Unique Selling Proposition (USP) and creating an effective elevator pitch. Your USP is a jargon word for “what are you offering that is of value that only you can offer” A USP is a concise statement that communicates the unique value you bring to the table, while an elevator pitch is a brief summary of who you are, what you do, and why it matters. By developing a strong USP and elevator pitch, you can make a lasting impression on your audience and stand out in a crowded marketplace.

Your USP should highlight what makes you different and why people should choose you over others. It’s a unique combination of your skills, experience, values, and personality that sets you apart from the competition. For example, Lisa Nichols, a motivational speaker and best-selling author, has a USP centered around her ability to inspire and empower her audience…infact any audience, to take action towards their dreams, desires and aspirations. Her USP is that she helps people unlock their potential and live their best lives by overcoming limiting beliefs and embracing their greatness.

Once you have established your USP, you need to craft an effective pitch that communicates your value proposition in a concise and compelling way. Your elevator pitch should be no longer than 30 seconds. If you need to practice and time yourself, then do so. It should include the following:

  • Your name and title
  • What you do
  • Why you do it
  • Who you do it for
  • The value/ transformation you offer
  • What makes you unique

Using Lisa Nichols as an example, her elevator pitch might sound something like this:

“Hi, I’m Lisa Nichols, a motivational speaker and author. I inspire and empower audiences to take action towards their dreams, helping them overcome limiting beliefs and embrace their greatness. We all experience our own levels of struggles in life. You can decide today however to rise beyond those struggles and life a life more incredible than you ever imagined. I work with individuals and organizations who are looking to unlock their potential and live their best lives. What sets me apart is my ability to connect with people on a deep level and help them achieve lasting, transformational change.”

In essence, establishing your Unique Selling Proposition (USP) and creating an effective pitch is essential to building a strong personal brand. By highlighting your unique value proposition and communicating it in a concise and compelling way, you can make a lasting impression on your audience and stand out in a crowded marketplace. Remember, your USP and elevator pitch should be authentic and reflect who you truly are, so that you can build a personal brand that is both memorable and impactful.
